March 28, 2006 Fire reported at 1033 hours when a passing oil truck driver reports seeing smoke coming from a house located at 127 Schneider Lane. Hauppauge Firefighters Vincent Giuliano and Michael Romito, who live near by went directly to the scene. The firefighters were able to enter the house through a rear sliding door, searching the house without PPE. The two men found and removed a 50 year old adult male from the house. Both firefighters received Class II silver medals from the county. Central Islip, Smithtown and Nesconset Fire Departments were on scene as well as CI Hauppauge Community Ambulance-who transported the victim. The Arson Squad reported that this was an accidental fire, a result of carelessly discarded smoking material.
