1726 hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a barn on fire behind 5 Settlers Road. Units arrived within four minutes and advised the dispatcher that they had a fully involved 25X35 barn burning on a large tract of land. The former horse barn was being used to store auto parts and accessories and had collapsed prior to the arrival of the fire department. The structure and contents were a total loss. Ray Germaine was Chief of Department and the OIC. Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance stood by. The Smithtown Fire Department sent an engine to cover for the duration. Fire Marshals from the Town of Islip and detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad assisted the Hauppauge Fire District Fire Marshal with the investigation.
