March 23, 2022 The Ronkonkoma, Lakeland, Nesconset, Farmingville and Holtsville Fire Departments are dispatched on multiple calls of a house fire at the corner of Lindell Avenue and Penn Street in Lake Grove (Ronkonkoma Fire District). Units arrived to find heavy fire throughout a two story private dwelling at 34 Penn Street. A quick interior attacked was abandoned due to a partial collapse. Crews went to an exterior operation utilizing two tower ladders and 4 landlines. The Centereach and Stony Brook Fire Departments were added to the incident as was the Holbrook Fire Department. All visible fire was knocked down within 90 minutes. Most of the house had collapsed, so the Chief requested an excavator from the Town of Brookhaven to knock the remainder of the structure down so that they could complete extinguishment. All fire departments secured from the scene by 1130 hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lake Grove Fire Marshals Office and Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department Arson squad. The fire is believed to be accidental. There were no injuries.
During the fire, Ronkonkoma Fire Department received a second report of a house fire on the other end of the district. This was handled by units from the Medford, Selden, Bohemia and Hauppauge Fire Departments. This fire turned out to be smoke from the initial alarm. Standby crews also handled a crash with overturn on Union Avenue.
