Central Islip FD-House fire on Hawthorne Avenue

June 22, 2018 0942 hours. The Central Islip Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a house on fire at 19 Hawthorne Avenue off Short Street. Units arrive to find heavy fire venting out of a two story single family dwelling. The working fire is transmitted, crews stretch in and mutual aid is requested from Hauppauge for a RIT, Islip Terrace for an engine to the scene and East Brentwood FD for an engine. Central Islip-Hauppauge ambulance, Brentwood Legion and Islip Exchange were also on scene. One firefighter was transported also responds to the scene. The Islip and East Islip Fire Departments also sent units to the scene and the Smithtown Fire Department sent an engine to cover for CI. Five lines were stretched and crews were pulled back to a defensive mode as fire raced through the bldg. The fire was placed under control at 1115 hours.
