March 13, 2003 Fire guts the Mobil gas station which was located where Panera Bread is now. The gas station was occupied at the time and was heavily involved when the fire department arrived. Smithtown Fire Marshals and Suffolk Arson Detectives handle the investigation. Fire is thought to be a result of plastic garbage bags being stored on top of an electric space heater.
