North Babylon Fire Co-House fire on August Road

January 23, 2021 2046 hours. The North Babylon Fire Company responded to a report of a house fire at 1243 August Road. Safety Officer Mike Kalhorn was first on scene and confirmed to Assistant Chief Mike Mazur that we had a working fire. Firefighters were met with heavy fire throughout the house. Members made numerous aggressive attempts to push through the fire and search the home due to initial reports that an occupant was still trapped inside, which was later proved to be false. No injuries were reported, however numerous animals were found deceased in the home. Units operated at this scene for over three hours. The house was a total loss. Mutual aid was provided by the Babylon, Bay Shore, Deer park, Dix Hills, West Islip, West Babylon Fire Departments, the Wyandanch Fire Company and Wyandanch Wheatley Heights Ambulance. The fire is currently under investigation by Fire Marshals from the Town of Babylon and Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad.
