Smithtown FD-Teen dies in cesspool behind Dunkin Donuts

February 28, 2010 17 year old Amiri Zeqiri died after falling into a cesspool behind the Dunkin Donuts on Route 347 at 111. Zeqiri had been working in the store with his cousin, was taking the garbage out to a dumpster in the rear parking lot. He stepped on a manhole cover, which failed underneath him. Zeqiri dropped into the pool. His cousin went to check on him a few minutes later and heard him screaming from within the pool. He was unable to rescue him so he went for help. By the time he returned, the victim was under water. Smithtown FD personnel utilized two pike poles to remove the victim, who was in cardiac arrest. He was transported to St. Catherines Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Numerous articles in the papers including 3-4-2010 Messenger.
