February 23, 1990 Fire reported just before midnight. An unknown male allegedly tossed a firebomb onto the rear deck at 124 Ledgewood Drive. House is owned by George and Mary Malonn. Both were home at the time, along with their daughter and two other family members. One of the female occupants was transported to the hospital complaining of hyperventilation and smoke inhalation.
This fire may be related to a New Jersey court case involving alleged illegal sludge dumping by the General Marine Transport Corporation, in which Mr. Malonn, a tug boat operator is a witness.
According to Detective Ron Strain of the Arson Squad, the house was gutted.
According to Detective Strain, 2 days prior to the fire, gasoline was poured into the Malonn’s home heating system. (A gasoline can was found next to the oil tank fill valve).
