Commack FD-house fire on Cornell Drive

February 11, 1997 2245 hours. A 19 year old woman was rescued from a burning home by her boyfriend and another man during a fire that destroyed the house and killed several of the family pets. The fire started at approximately 2245 hours in the living room and quickly spread throughout the house.Scott Grycuik resides in the fire building with his mother and a tenant Kenneth Vought. Mr. Grucuiks girlfriend Sheryl Zelinski was also present. Prior to the arrival of the FD, Mr. Grycuik and Mr. Vought had to rescue Ms. Zelinski, who failed to exit the house in an effort to try and save some of the animals within. She was found unconscious in the bedroom doorway and was removed by the two men. Zelinski was transported by Commack Ambulance to St. Johns Hospital in Smithtown. Several cats and two ferrets were killed in the fire. Smithtown Fire Department assisted Commack at the scene. The fire was placed under control within an hour. The fire is believed to have started on a couch in the living room.
