December 4, 2021 0725 hours. Suffolk Police 6th precinct officers respond to 57 North Washington Ave in regard to a report of a disturbance. The officer arrives and notes that there is an active fire within the house. The officer evacuates six occupants from the house while requesting the FD. Centereach Fire Department is activated shortly thereafter. Arriving FD units encounter heavy fire throughout a one and one half story wood frame dwelling. Crews knocked down the fire from the exterior with master streams and then entered the building with numerous hose lines to complete extinguishment. Mutual aid was provided at the scene by the Setauket Fire Department (engine), Nesconset Fire Department (RIT), Stony Brook Fire Department (engine) and the Selden Fire Department (engine). The Ronkonkoma Fire Department sent an engine to cover for Centereach for the duration of the incident. The fire was placed under control by Chief of Department Mayzus at 0903 hours. The last FD unit cleared the scene at 0955. The house is a total loss. Fire Marshals from the Town of Brookhaven and Suffolk Police Arson Squad Detectives are investigating.
