March 28, 1982 A probable electrical fire gutted the attic of a historic home on Moriches Road in Nissequogue. The house was formerly owned by the late Virginia Malone. Mrs. Malone served as the Town Historian and her husband founded the Smithtown News. Mutual aid was provided by the Centereach Fire Department with a tanker. Smithtown FD sent an engine to cover. Firefighter Doug Einsfield was treated a the scene for smoke inhalation. This was a large 2 story wood frame house. The house sat on 12 acres between the firehouse and village hall.
