March 27, 1947 A midnight fire destroyed the barn and valuable farm equipment of Joseph Cannataro. The fire was discovered by John Shelton of the St. James Fire Department as he was on his way home from a meeting of officers at the St. James Firehouse. He immediately turned in the alarm and the fire department responds. The building is a total loss. One new truck was pulled out of the structure and firemen kept the fire from spreading to other buildings. Two tractors were lost in the blaze. 3-27-1947 Smithtown News
