Smithtown FD-Original Firehouse is dedicated

March 2, 1909. This was a year after the fire department was formed in March of 1908. An open house was held for the public. Ike Henschel donated two large Rochester oil lamps to light the building, and it was voted to purchase a new hook and ladder from the Combination Ladder Company of Providence , Rhode Island, for $375.00, selling the one purchase from the Bayport Fire Department. The Hook and Ladder from Bayport went to the St. James Fire Department.
