12-21-21. 1502 hours. The Smithtown Fire Department is dispatched to a reported house fire on South Plaisted Ave in the Hauppauge portion of their district. Assistant Chief Dongvort was first to arrive and advised of smoke showing and an active fire within the building. While Smithtown crews were still en-route, mutual aid was requested from the Hauppauge Fire Department for a ladder to the scene, Commack Fire Department for a quint and an engine to the scene and the St. James Fire Department for a RIT. Chief of Department Pat Diecidue arrived and assumed command of the operation. Crews stretched two hose lines. The fire was quickly extinguished, the house was ventilated and searched for victims. The fire was placed under control within 20 minutes and all crews cleared from the scene at around 5PM. The scene was turned over to Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. There were no injuries. The Nesconset Fire Department sent a ladder and the Kings Park Fire Dept sent an engine to cover for Smithtown during the alarm.
