June 18, 2019 Suffolk County Police last night arrested a man for driving while intoxicated following a head-on motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a man in Hauppauge. Johnny Mendez was driving a 2008 Subaru Impreza northbound on Lincoln Boulevard, just north of Route 454, when the vehicle veered into the southbound lane and struck a 2001 Jeep Cherokee driven by Francis Squillace at approximately 10:15 p.m. Squillace, 61, of Hicksville, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. Mendez and a 17-year-old male passenger in the Impreza were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with minor injuries. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Mendez, 18, of 1122 Joselson Ave., Bayshore was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today. The Hauppauge Fire Department handled this incident along with Central Islip Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
