Hauppauge FD-body found in burning house on Grissom Way.

June 26, 2019 2250 hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department responds to a reported house fire at 108 Grissom Way off Carpenter Lane. Assistant Chief Brett Martinez was first in and advised of an active fire in a two story private dwelling. Arriving units picked up a hydrant and stretched three lines on the fire. Mutual aid was requested from the Smithtown Fire Department for an engine to the scene and the Central Islip FIre Department for a RIT to the scene. While performing a search of the building, firefighters located a deceased 59 year old male.  The fire was placed under control within 38 minutes and the final FD unit secured from the scene at 0108 hours. The scene was secured and turned over to detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad and Homicide Squad. Police determined that the deceased started the fire and then ended his life with a gun. The Saint James Fire Department sent an engine and a Chief to cover. Central Islip Hauppauge Community Ambulance handled EMS duties on scene.
