Montauk FD-House fire on Willow Lane in Hither Hills

November 17, 2021 0910 hours. The Montauk Fire Department is dispatched on a 911 call from a house cleaner reporting that there was smoke in a house at 23 Willow Lane in Hither Hills. Units arrived to find fire in the basement of a two story, 4,000 square foot private dwelling.

There were no hydrants or cisterns and since the house sits far above the road, the only access to the fire building was via a steep sloped driveway. It took approximately five hours to extinguish the blaze. The house was destroyed. Montauk operated with their three tankers. Mutual aid was provided at the scene by the Springs, Amagansett, East Hampton, Southampton, Sag Harbor and North Sea Fire Departments. One Montauk firefighter was transported to Stony Brook hospital with chest pain. Thankfully, he was treated and released.
