At 9:30am on the morning of Sunday, December 12th, 2021, the West Babylon Fire Department was activated for a reported structure fire at 23 Maple Street. Initial reports from complainants indicated smoke coming from the basement of the home. Suffolk County Police Department units arrived moments later and advised of a working fire. This message was relayed to responding West Babylon Fire Department units by Babylon Central Fire Alarm, and Chief of Department Robert Sullo transmitted the working fire. Engine 1-9-3 was the first unit to respond, followed by Ladder Tower 1-9-4. Units found a small gas fed fire in the ½ corner of the basement. The utilities were quickly secured and the fire extinguished.
Following 1-9-3 and 1-9-4 were Engines 1-9-2, 6, and 8, as well as Heavy Rescue 1-9-15, Chiefs 1-9-30, 31, 32, and 33, as well as numerous other support and EMS units. Mutual Aid was provided by the Babylon and Lindenhurst Fire Departments, with Babylon’s Ladder 1-2-8 acting as the FAST Truck and Lindenhurst’s 1-6-2 acting as a standby engine.
