August 6, 2019 1128 hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department handles a vehicle fire on the eastbound Veterans Highway shoulder between Gatewood Drive and Autumn Drive. Vehicle was a 2009 Crown Victoria owned and utilized by the Suffolk County Dept. of Probation. The officer operating the vehicle was uninjured. The cause was an undetermined mechanical failure in the engine compartment possibly related to the ac compressor.
