Huntington Manor FD-house fire on West 9th Street

May 21, 2021 Huntington Manor firefighters responded to West 9th Street for a report of a structure fire at #120. Lieutenant Alex Demarest, who was in the area advised dispatch of a working fire. Firefighters from Engine 3 secured a hydrant and stretched an attack line to the side door of the structure. At this time propane tanks which were in the rear of the structure starting igniting as the heat from the fire caused the relief valves to open. A 2nd line was stretched from Ladder 6 to keep the tanks cool and prevent an explosion. Firefighters from Engine 3 made an interior attack and were able to knock down the majority of fire inside the structure. The Hicksville Fire Departments Haz Mat unit was requested to respond to assist in the burn off the remaining propane from a 100 pound tank in the yard.. Huntington Manor was assisted at the scene by the Huntington and Greenlawn Fire Departments. The Huntington Community First Aid Squad was at the scene with an ambulance standby. Firefighters from Melville stood by at Manor Headquarters and responded to an additional alarm. The Town of Huntington Fire Marshal and Suffolk County Police Arson Squad were requested to the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
