Melville FD-House fire on Sweet Hollow Road

August 26th 2236 hours The Melville Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for a house fire at 265 Sweet Hollow Road. Upon arrival, just 4 minutes later, they found the second floor of an attached three car garage fully involved with extension into the home. Under the command of Chiefs Kaplan, Bernfeld and Barclay, an agressive interior attack was made, and within one hour, the fire was under control, thereby saving the vast majority of the residence. Melville responded with 3 engines, Heavy Rescue, and 3 Ambulances. Mutual aid assistance was provided by crews from Huntington Manor, Dix Hills, East Farmingdale, Plainview and Greenlawn at the scene, with Syosset and Halesite standing by in Melville’s Headquarters. The homeowner was transported with smoke inhalation to NUMC. Suffolk Police Arson Squad Detectives are investigating. Information and photo from the Melville Fire Dept Facebook Page.
