Melville FD-Explosion at asphalt plant on Spagnoli Rd.

March 21, 2021. At 1250 hours, the Melville Volunteer Fire Department was activated for an explosion and fire at a facility on Spagnoli Road. Upon his arrival , Chief Of Department David Kaplan assumed command, and advised all responding units that a 15,000 gallon liquid asphalt tank had exploded and was fully involved. In addition, he noted that additional tankers located nearby required immediate cooling. Melville responded with multiple units, including 4 engines, 2 ladders and a foam truck. Additional units included Assistant Chiefs Barclay and Bernfeld, 4 ambulances, medic, fire police, and safety officer. All visible fire was reported knocked down at 1352 hours. Mutual aid was provided by the following departments:

Suffolk County PD Arson Squad, Town of Huntington Fire Marshals and the NYS DEC are investigating.
