January 5, 2020 1034 hours. Smithtown Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a gas leak on Mt. Pleasant Road near Townline Road. Firefighters arrive to find gas leaking from a manhole in the street. FD personnel closed Mt. Pleasant from Townline to Sherry Lane and continuously monitored atmospheric conditions in the area until National Grid arrived to handle.
