September 23, 2019 2249 hours. The St. James Fire Department responds to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Third Avenue near Fourth Street. Units arrive to find that the adult male operator of a Ford Excursion lost control of his vehicle when backing out of his driveway and slammed into the house across the street. The vehicle operator refused rescue but an adult male that was in the house was transported to the hospital for evaluation via ambulance. Smithtown Fire Marshals and a Building Inspector were called to the scene to follow up.
