Smithtown-Grist Mill burns

January 4, 1826. A grist mill in Smithtown belonging to Messrs Epenetus Oakley and John Carll, was consumed by fire this evening along with nearly all of its contents. The fire is supposed to have originated from the heating of the spindle. The property was partly insured.

NOTE: There were no fire departments in the Town at this time.
