January 10, 1997 2100 hours. Smithtown Fire Department is dispatched to a reported fire in a commercial building at 100 Landing Avenue, the old Roscoe Tools. Crews arrive to find heavy fire in a large vacant section of a commercial building. FD personnel from all township departments to fight the fire. The blaze is brought under control within 2 hours. The vacant section of the building a total loss. Firefighters return to the scene on the 12th for another fire. The rear of the building was slated for demolition. This was the section that burned. The front section had just been renovated and was undamaged. Town equipment was used to open up the building, allowing the FD to extinguish the fire.
