January 8, 1950 Fire discovered by a passerby. Mr. and Mrs. Blydenburgh, both invalids, were safely evacuated from the house by their aide, Mrs. Thompson. Not sure exactly where the house was but it is noted as being located in the Village of the Branch. Fire reported at approximately 1115 AM.
74 firefighters responded and although the roof was completely destroyed, the house was saved.
Both of the Blydenburghs were over 80 and in poor health. They were first removed to a neighbors home and then to a nursing home. Mr. Blydenburgh formerly owned the David Weld property. They disposed of that property and moved to Main Street due to their failing health. 1-12-50 Smithtown News.
