September 11, 2018 0510 hours. Ronkonkoma Fire Department responds to Perrys Florist 239 Hawkins Avenue for an activated fire alarm. Units arrive and find smoke pushing from a single story commercial building. The alarm is re-toned as a structure fire and the mutual aid plan is initiated, bringing in the Lakeland, Nesconset and Holtsville Fire Departments. Crews forced entry, stretched two lines and after a search, located and extinguished the fire in the basement. There were no injuries. St. James Fire Department sent an engine to cover for Ronkonkoma for the duration.
