Just after 7am on the morning of September 11th, 2021, the West Babylon Fire Department was activated for a reported residential structure fire at 223 Kellum Street. 2nd Assistant Chief Steve Kamalic arrived on scene shortly thereafter and reported smoke showing from the home. Engine 1-9-6 was the first engine on scene and was followed closely by Heavy Rescue 1-9-15. Units found a small fire in the attic above a bedroom in the rear of the home, which was quickly extinguished. The home was vented, and the scene was turned over to the Town of Babylon Fire Marshal’s Office for an investigation. Responding units included engines 1-9-1, 1-9-2, 1-9-3, 1-9-6, and 1-9-8, Heavy Rescue 1-9-15, Chiefs 1-9-30, 1-9-32, and 1-9-33, and numerous other support and EMS units.
