Suffolk County Legislature unanimously approves a 10 percent property tax exemption to volunteer firefighters and EMTs.

March 11, 2000 Bill sponsored by Jon Cooper (D-Huntington), stipulates that volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers who have at least five years of service with the respective departments would be eligible for the exemption. Volunteers with more than 20 or more years of service would be eligible for a lifetime 10 percent exemption as long as their primary residence remains in Suffolk County.
