October 31, 2018 Skeletal remains found in basement of Lake Grove home, decades after owner went missing:
A skeleton was discovered in the basement of a home on Long Island Wednesday, 57 years after a man who lived there went missing.Police say that man’s four adult children found the possible human remains while excavating the basement of the home on Olive Street in Lake Grove. The father has been missing since 1961. The family has owned the home since 1957. The mother is deceased and the four siblings own the house.
According to police, Michael Carroll and his adult sons were digging in the basement of Michael’s home on Olive Street. That’s when they discovered what appeared to be human remains and called police. Michael’s parents, George and Dorothy, owned the home in 1957 and they lived there with Michael and his three siblings. However, George went missing in 1961 and Michael says he never got a straight answer about what happened. Michael’s mother has been dead for about 20 years and it’s not clear what happened to the father. The remains will now be examined by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
Authorities are now trying to identify the remains. Update 12/12/18. Suffolk Police state that the Medical Examiner has confirmed that the remains in fact George Carroll.
