February 19, 1961. Hauppauge FD. This fire was on Wheeler Road, directly across the street from the firehouse. Fire was reported at 0330 hours. 8 stores were destroyed including a tavern, the Bank of Smithtown, The Post Office, and others. The center was owned by Jacob Kimbrig. The fire started in the tavern.
